(2/5/2010) Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park The Friends of the Southwest Virginia Museum, in association with the 2010 Gathering in the Gap Music Festival, have announced that entries are now officially being accepted for the 2010 Gathering in the Gap Songwriting Contest. Ten finalists will be chosen to perform their songs at the Gathering in the Gap Music Festival, on May 29, 2010, on the grounds of the Southwest Virginia Musuem. All entries will be judged by a panel of professional songwriters, publishers, and other music industry professionals. From the ten finalists, a 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-place winner will be chosen. Prizes include: a complementary ticket to a songwriting workshop with Tim Stafford of Blue Highway, and cash awards. The first-place winner will also receive a 5-hour recording session at the Grammy Award-winning recording studio, Maggard Sound of Big Stone Gap. The deadline for song entries is April 15, 2010. Entry forms can be downloaded from the Gathering in the Gap website. Entry fees are $10 for first song, $5 for a second song. Check or money orders are accepted, made payable to the "Friends of the Southwest Virginia Museum."
