(4/14/2010) NCTA The National Council for the Traditional Arts is sponsoring a multi-artist traveling road show currently touring the Eastern U.S. during the month of April of 2010.
Titled The Music From the Crooked Road: Mountain Music of Virginia, the tour celebrates the living musical culture of our region, which today not only survives, but thrives. The artists participating in this 13-date tour link the past, present and future of these deep American traditions, and include legendary banjo player and leader of The Lonesome River Band Sammy Shelor, mountain ballad singer Elizabeth LaPrelle, the old time banjo and fiddle of Kirk Sutphin & Eddie Bond, renowned luthier and flatpicker Wayne Henderson, old time family band The Whitetop Mountain Band, and No Speed Limit. Additional information, including a complete tour schedule, can be found on the NCTA site: The Music from the Crooked Road: Mountain Music of Virginia tour is produced by the National Council for the Traditional Arts, and is presented in partnership with the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation. Support is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art; the Virginia Tourism Corporation; and The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail.
